Drawing from Observation

This week, my home school students drew a still life from observation. I encouraged them to look for shadows and highlights.

About Art Start

This blog tracks the creative endeavors of kids in the Art Start art classes and art camps in Poway, a community near San Diego, California.

Since 1988, thousands of children have been introduced to the magic of art in Art Start classes. Kids explore a variety of media as they draw, paint and sculpt. The fun and colorful projects appeal to children of all ages -- even parents have enrolled!

Artist Susan Bainbridge uses a directed drawing approach to provide students with a structure for a positive beginning. She encourages them to creatively expand beyond that start. The end results are individually distinct. Art terms, media tips and art appreciation are introduced to further enrich their lessons. Clay and origami are offered to develop children’s spatial thinking and dexterity.

Kids come to Art Start to make art but gain so much more; their confidence soars when they see their incredible creations!
